HOP ONWARD RABBIT RABBIT
A New England Cottontail’s Journey
Another beautiful book by Tonya Shevenell, illustrated by Laura Winslow
“Where are the other rabbits like me?” That’s the question a New England cottontail asks on a journey across unfamiliar habitats and changing seasons in Maine.
In a heart-warming story of resilience, luck, and friendship, ‘Hop Onward Rabbit Rabbit’ invites readers into a beautiful watercolor world of animal conversations. Inspired by the real-lives of New England cottontails and other North American wildlife heroes, the book includes Meet the Species endnotes featuring animals from the story and a special bonus section dedicated to its star.
Hardcover.
THE MAINE BIRTHDAY BOOK
Written by By Tonya Shevenell
Illustrated by Laura Winslow
What would YOU wish for? That's the question a thoughtful chickadee named Dirigo asks his friends who have traveled from all over Maine's woods, waterways and wilderness to celebrate his birthday. Gathered around the dandelion birthday candle, each animal offers Dirigo a special wish as they take turns telling stories about their own Maine birthdays. A conversation to be enjoyed any day of the year, The Maine Birthday Book was born on a walk in the woods where farmland and forest meet the sea. It's a celebration of wildlife, geography and the magic of Maine. Hardcover.
CANTON, MAINE - A Small Town with a Rich History - the Video on DVD
On February 5, 1821, the State of Maine Legislature signed a Private and Special Law enacting the incorporation of the Town of Canton. In Celebration of the Town’s Bicentennial, the Historical Society decided to tell the story of our town in a video.
Follow the journey of our Town from its beginnings with the rich, fertile valley formed around the Androscoggin River to our current day. This video has a delightful mix of photographs, interviews, documents and storytelling. You will recognize many things and perhaps hear something you never knew before.
This video was created to tell our story. We hope you enjoy it.
Thank you to our sponsors and all who participated in bringing this project alive.
WHAT WAS AIN’T WHAT IS:
A Picture History of Canton, Maine
by Norman A. Vashaw
Published in 1995, the book is described by the author in the dedication: “I did not start this out as as book. Instead just a personal collection of a few old pictures. As it progressed I realized that something should be done to preserve the history of this town. This book is not designed as an authenticated source of information. However, it is as accurate as possible based on the material that was available. Also, many people have contributed bits and pieces of memories, (yours may vary) - that’s what makes this book so special.”
The book is special indeed. Packed with photographs of people and places throughout Canton’s history, Norman Vashaw created a wonderful gift to the town when he put this book together in 1995. Many thanks to the Vashaw family for making copies available.
